Hoover,
one of the oldest floor care equipment manufacturers, makes rug/floor
cleaner/scrubber/polisher/shampooers and SteamVacs. While both of these types
of machines can be used on either carpets/rugs or bare floors, the
scrubber/polishers are designed primarily for floors and the SteamVacs for rugs.
Since we sell commercial floor machines (buffers, scrubbers & burnishers) and
commercial rug cleaning equipment, we take a long view of most residential
equipment of this sort. However, Hoover scrubbers and the Hoover SteamVac are
at least as good as any of the other residential brands.
Hoover makes a twin-brush unit which will scrub a bare floor, buff it, polish it
and shampoo a carpet. It uses a tank that will dispense either a rug shampooing
solution or a bare floor scrubbing solution. This is a traditionally designed
floor machine. It does not recover any fluids once they are dispensed and
scrubbed.
Hoover also makes another, similar machine; but, with considerably better
construction (it features a one-piece cast-aluminum chassis) and the advantage
of wet pickup on bare floors. Called originally a Floor-a-Matic and latterly a
Scrub`n'Vac it is one of the all-time best products that Hoover ever made.
Unfortunately, they decided to discontinue it in favor of a not-so-very-good
(pardon me) machine marketed as a bare floor cleaning machine called the
FloorMate. We have some Scrub`n'Vacs left as of this writing - these units
historically last 20 years or more. Grab one if you are interested!
The Hoover SteamVac line changes in its models faster than you change socks.
Generally, we carry the premium series of these units. This means that they
will have rotating brushes on the front so as to "soft scrub" the carpet, as
well as an integral hose that instantly allows for the use of either a
traditional-style upholstery/stair tool or an upscale spinning brush tool used
on the same surfaces.
Of course, a steamer (carpet extractor is the proper terminology) will inject a
cleaning solution, scrub the carpet fibers (in the Hoover design) and then
extract back (pick up) the solution.
You might like to consider, as an alternative to any of the pieces of equipment
noted above, a good quality Steam Vapor Cleaner. We have seen a significant
percentage of folks initially interested in standard rug cleaning equipment such
as the Hoover SteamVac wind up getting the LadyBugXL Steam Vapor System instead.
This unit not only cleans with no chemicals, it sanitizes the rug and can be
used to clean almost any conceivable surface throughout the house. Great
product! Please

Hoover F5300 Floormax Scrubber/Polisher/Shampooer DISCONTINUED.
Unfortunately, Hoover has discontinued
this excellent machine and replaced it with a unit called a FloorMate.
Let us just say that the difference in quality precludes us from stocking
the FloorMate.
