The Arctic Front Portable
Room Air Conditioner offers the convenience of a
quality portable air conditioner. Many people have never heard of these; but,
such a unit is completely self-contained, moves around on wheels from area to
area if necessary and enables proper cooling or auxiliary cooling in residential
bedrooms, kitchens, play areas, finished basements, home offices or in an
office in a retail store or office building.
Such units provide instant relief
from heat or mugginess by simply plugging them in and turning them on. The
typical design includes a stretchable/adjustable ducting hose (to carry the hot
air away from the air conditioner and out of the room) which simply snaps onto
an adjustable panel which is designed to fit into a window. Alternately, the
unit can duct outside through a wall or into a crawl space or similar void. The
water removed from the air collects into a container inside the A/C and, when
the container is full, the air conditioner automatically shuts off so that the
water can be emptied. Optionally, there is an included drain hose which enable
draining of the water directly into a sump, etc.
The best of these units provide
12,000 btu of cooling power and will quickly provide relief in the room. The
Arctic Front, an industry leader in this field, also features a remote control
for quick and easy on/off, adjustments of temperature, mode of operation which
includes automatic cooling or manual cooling where oneself adjusts the specific
temperature and any one of the three fan speeds, a sleep mode, etc. Alternately,
the large LCD panel on the top of the unit provides touch sensitive controls for
the same results as the remote."
This unit is also extremely quiet -
much more so than standard room air conditioners. This extreme quietness is
one of the best benefits of the Arctic Front. Air conditioners tend to be so
noisy; but, if noise sensitivities are an issue, the Arctic Front is the answer.
When it is switched on a set of louvers located on the top of the A/C
automatically open to provide a stream of cool, moisture-free air via a 225 cfm
fan. These louvers close back down when the machine turns off which helps to
contribute to its sleek, attractive look either when on or off. It plugs into a
standard 110 volt electrical receptacle - making it suitable for operation just
about anywhere.
The unit is sleek and compact. At a
width of 18 inches wide, a depth of 15 inches deep, a height of 34 inches and a
weight of 99 pounds it can be used almost everywhere. It boasts the added
benefit of use as a fan only or as a dehumidifier only. The Arctic Front is a
great product - at the opposite end of the spectrum, so to speak, but, on a par
with our popular "soft heat" portable Sun Twin infrared heaters that so
effectively provide the heating solution to poorly heated rooms in the Winter.
