Eureka is one of the largest manufacturers of vacuums in the USA.
Their business, like that of Hoover, Dirt Devil and others, is largely aimed
towards volume selling. This means that the quality is much less important than
the price, and that lack of integrity is clearly shown in most of their
equipment. Excuse me for being blunt.
A vacuum cleaner is an exremely important tool in the house or commercial
facility: it is the single most important product for maintaining the health of
the indoor environment. Why is this? It is because a good vacuum will
efficiently remove large quantities of soil that degrade carpets, floors and
furnishings and because it will effectively retain the hundreds of millions of
microscopic pollutants that are being constantly removed every minute of the
vacuuming process. As noted elsewhere on this website, unless a vacuum cleaner
has airtight housings, the cleaner simply will not retain these microscopic
pollutants - they will be ejected through the gaps and apertures in the
vacuum itself. Therefore, a good quality - even a Hepa - filter on a poorly
constructed vacuum means very little.
Thus, the majority of the Eureka vacuum line offers relatively little quality.
The manufacturer, like Hoover and Dirt Devil, pay lip service in their
advertising to the consumer's concerns; but, our service records (we have been
servicing almost every conceivable type of vacuum cleaner since the very early
sixties!) has repeatedly demonstrated the extremely low quality inherent in such
vacuums' design and construction. A service department is an invaluable
barometer for gauging product reliability (or, lack thereof).
As a result, while we carry a reasonably broad range of Eureka equipment, we
actually sell very little of it. We do stock a Eureka - a Swedish-made canister
called the Excaliber - that is a decent vacuum; however, for only a bit
more you could buy a Miele Red Star canister with a power nozzle ("click"

to connect to our webpage on the world's best canister vacuum - the Miele!)
which is a much better investment.
Eureka also makes a commercial upright line called the Sanitaire which is
a reasonably durable, average priced upright. It doesn't retain small
particulate worth a hoot (the vacuum leaks); however, for basic
commercial use it is a do-able machine if oneself is not overly concerned about
extended life or effective retention of small particles. (If you are wanting a
good-quality commercial upright vacuum, please "click"

Finally, Eureka makes a line of electric brooms and hand vacuums
that are o.k. for the money - $25 to $50 (nobody makes a Mercedes in this price
range). Again, we think you can get much better value than anything the large
manufacturers offer if you are willing to invest more $$ on your initial
purchase. See our webpage on DeLonghi electric brooms, for example, if
you are interested in a good electric broom, etc. ("click"
