Oreck Commercial Vacuums
- mainly the XL Upright Vacuums - are quite popular for commercial use. This is
due, in large part, to the fact that a traditional Oreck XL Upright Hotel Vacuum
weighs, once the cord is unleashed, the famous "8 pounds".
An Oreck vacuum provides a very fast way to clean. This is due both to the
extremely light weight and also because it uses a well-designed revolving brush
that spins at a good speed. The result of these two factors is that the vacuum
moves almost effortlessly across standard commercial-grade carpeting.
An Oreck also uses a large, top-fill paper bag. We only suggest that the Oreck
micron (HypoAllergenic) paper bags be used - in distinction to the Oreck
standard paper bag. We only sell Oreck Commercial Uprights with the
HypoAllergenic outer bag system, assembly; so, the outer and the inner micron
bags work hand in hand.
An Oreck XL Hotel Upright Vacuum is also extremely easy to maintenance. It
stores a spare belt on the bottom plate and this belt can be installed onto the
revolving brush by simply removing a small cover on one side of the vacuum and
slipping the belt into place.
Simple clogs can be quite easily removed by loosening two knurled handle tube
locking rings and pulling off the main dirt tube. Once this tube is removed, it
should be an easy matter to remove most clogs by using a hunk of coat hanger
wire.
An Oreck is also surprisingly durable. The main housing is made out of lexan
and most of the component parts are made of similar space-age plastics -
lightweight and durable.
Oreck used to have a wide-track upright called the BigFoot; however, this has
been replaced by the DualStack. The DualStack is larger and more powerful and
is better for more open areas.
We think the Oreck XL Hotel Upright has some advantages for commercial use, as
mentioned above. It is certainly fast and easy. By no means, however, do we
classify it as the overall best choice for commercial upright use. We think the
light weight is an advantage; however, our most popular commercial uprights are
either the Royal all-metal upright or the Lindhaus twin-motor upright.
The Royal is the most durable of all our commercial uprights - almost unique in
the length of its functional lifespan. The Lindhaus offers an infinitely smooth
and quiet machine - they make the best twin-motor uprights in the industry.
Either unit is vastly superior to the Oreck in cleaning efficiency and
filtration (especially the Lindhaus).

Oreck has a complete line-up of commercial cleaning equipment. They have a
wide-area vac (up to 28 inches) called the ComVac. They have commercial wet/dry
vacuums and they make an unique, good line of floor machines called the Orbiter
in 13-inch and the LoBoy in a 20-inch unit.
These units work orbitally like a random, orbital sander. With a spinning disc
on the bottom that, with random "throws", achieves over 1700 rpm, this equipment
can be used for light burnishing. The orbital action provides an excellent way
to scrub floors, as the solution will not be thrown up onto baseboards, etc.
The same applies to stripping.
It is also a very good way to sand wood floors, as the random motion eliminates
swirl marks. By using progressively finer sanding discs, a very smooth finish
can be obtained by an Orbiter
These units have an advantage, as well, in that they weigh quite a bit less than
standard floor machines. Also, the random motion provides a very stable
movement - the traditional floor machine control of "lock the handle" and
control the movement by raising and lowering the handle is not used with the
Orbiters. These units, instead, can be guided, literally, with finger-tip
control. The lack of weight has one negative - the machine does not have that
heavy, grind-the-wax-off-the-floor ability as does a standard 175rpm floor
machine.

some unique products that have specific advantages. We have been selling the
Oreck line for well over 30 years - at one time we were the Master Distributors
of Oreck for the NY/NJ metro area. Most of the Oreck business, of course, is in
the well-advertised 8-pound, XL Hotel Upright Vacuum.
